Other than iPod...

It seems that everything in car audio right now is iPod ready. Unfortunately (or fortunately), I own a different mp3 player (Zen Vision M). I was wondering what kind of set-up I can do to properly hook up my Zen to my car's stereo.

Ur right. almost all new headunits are iPod ready. If you have a Pioneer headunit you could use the RB-10.

It's an aux-in adapter, not an iPod adapter. But, you won't be able to control your portable from the headunit. There are also other Pioneer headunits that have additional inputs (headphone jack) on the face. My sister's Pioner 6850 has this.

The best thing to do is to replace your car's head unit. Sony Xplod's car audio line has built-in aux-in jacks. You can hook up your media player here. But I've read somewhere (will try to look for the reference) that it's dangerous to hook it up directly, due to the possibility that electric current may pass through that wire and damage your media player. I use a wireless FM transmitter for my audio pass-through.

TIP: If you're using a wireless FM transmitter, don't plug it into your lighter adaptor. You'll get static and hissing, especially when stepping on the brake, honking your horn, flashing your headlights, etc. Make sure you use another power source, like a rechargeable battery, if your transmitter supports it.
